Chattahoochee animal clinic monthly specials

I wanted to quickly comment on an article that I read from Prevention Magazine. Atlanta was ranked the #1 city for mosquitos per Orkin. What does this mean to us beyond the fact that we need to beef up on insect repellent spray? It means that our pets are at prime risk for receiving mosquito bites. So, why does that matter other than the itching that may ensue from a bite. Well, the mosquito is the vector for heatworm disease! So, these little annoying heartworm disease carriers are infesting our city. This makes heartworm preventative medication extremely vital to ensure our pet's safety this year. It only takes one bite in an unprotected dog or cat for them to contract heartworm disease. After that it is a slippery slope and the disease can be deadly to your pet if left untreated. As for the treatment...it can be costly, there are a small percentage of patients that have adverse reactions, and the pet requires activity restriction for 2-3 months. So, take control of your pet's health this summer and have them on heartworm prevention. If you have questions please email or call the office. Have a great start to the summer.
