Thank to 11Alive for giving these guys some air time. They, and the many fur kids that are abandoned and neglected deserve a voice...advocates for their wellness. Helping these rescued kids bring so much hope and job fulfillment. It is our pleasure to assist all pets...but these guys are special.

ROSWELL, Ga. (WXIA) -- Together, they are a sight to see -- two Cocker Spaniels, bouncing back from severe neglect.

And one never lets the other out of his sight.

They share an inseparable bond. They are not brothers. They are simply survivors together. No one knows how long they've known each other.

But it is clear that when the time comes for them to go up for adoption, there will be no way to separate them, because of what they are for each other and what they see in each other.

"They're buddies. They're definitely buddies," said Marcus Smith, DVM, of Chattahoochee Animal Hospital.

Tuesday afternoon, as the buddies played in the yard behind the hospital, one of them began to explore, heading toward a chain-link fence. Suddenly the other one ran up to try to guide him away from bumping his head hard into the fence, protecting him.

It's how they are together. Because, after years of abuse and neglect, Denny is blind.

And Drummond has just enough sight left to be Denny's eyes. "They hang out together, they get along really well together, they're a pretty good team," said Dr. Smith.

Dr. Smith is bringing Denny and Drummond back to health.

It was in late November when Angels Among Us Pet Rescue found the dogs suffering from that severe neglect; the two dogs were together, at a county animal shelter, and were about to be put to sleep. Angels Among Us rescued them.

"They were together, you can tell that they were bonded, because one of them is blind and the other one is almost blind, there was no way we could pull one without pulling the other," said Lance White, the CEO of Angels Among Us. "We've definitely noticed that one of them seems to take care of the other one.... It's true. They [are] sort of a blind dog with a guide dog."

White estimates Denny to be 7 to 9 years old and Drummond to be 4 to 6 years old.

"They were in pretty bad shape," said Dr. Smith. "They had a really deep skin infection, they had significant eye infections -- a lot of things going on with them that had been progressing over time.... One developed a cataract."

Dr. Smith believes the dogs suffered from the neglect for months or years. And no one knows who neglected to care for them.

Angels Among Us currently has 450 dogs and 250 cats in foster care, looking for permanent homes.

And on Facebook, a post about Denny and Drummond has drawn thousands of likes and comments from around the world, from humans who can see how beautiful blind love can be.

"It's very nice to see that in animals, that they can actually take care of one another," said White. "Dogs are real resilient. They can overcome such catastrophes that have been done to them, and it's amazing how resilient they are."

Dr. Smith and Angels Among Us Pet Rescue expect that both dogs will be able to make pretty much a full recovery, except for Denny's eyes.

The dogs will be placed, soon, in foster care, together, until they are strong and ready for adoption, together, probably in a few months.
